Ex-Anthropic researcher claims AI could self-copy to escape shutdown, peers mock the tech

Ex-Anthropic/OpenAI researcher Jacob Coxon told CBS News that advanced AI "can't just be unplugged" because it could copy itself across the internet, potentially making 10,000 cooperating copies. Engineers pushed back hard: a 100GB+ frontier model isn't a 50KB email virus, and there aren't idle H100s with inference stacks waiting everywhere to host it.
