A researcher who resigned from Anthropic told Politico's correspondent that the AI race isn't really US vs China — 'it's more like the US and China are both facing contact with an alien species,' with a choice between arming stronger aliens to fight each other or banding together against them.
Tech critic Ed Zitron sharply rebutted the framing, calling it horrifying that anyone buys the rhetoric: it paints the companies as helpless and LLMs as impossible to contain, when in reality they are cloud software run by the largest companies in the world, fully under their control.
