RLVR spiky capability theory questioned: information asymmetry is the real primitive

StefanGliga · x · 2026-09-12

StefanGliga pushes back on the popular intuition (from kalomaze) that "spiky capabilities are a function of how verifiable a domain is" — the idea that domains not shaped like math or software engineering won't fall to RLVR. He argues the underlying general primitive is information asymmetry, which can almost always be manufactured. He also notes that transfer from RL training remains weak, so the "jagged frontier" of capabilities will persist for a while.
