Responding to the quip that Jacob discussing AI extinction is like asking your AC guy about climate change, the author calls the take weird and unnecessary.
He agrees more people should join the AI-risk conversation, but notes a real information asymmetry: people inside OpenAI/Anthropic have far more data on frontier model progress than outsiders (with their own biases). The solution: demand more data and evidence, keep the conversation open, and support current or former oai/anthropic employees who speak out — you can do both.
