uv's ZIP extraction rewrite, inspired by Bun, makes Jupyter installs 25-30% faster
charliermarsh · x · 2026-09-12
Charlie Marsh (Ruff/uv author) shares a performance fix for uv, inspired by Bun's code: ZIP extraction now runs as a single blocking task per archive with synchronous filesystem operations — replacing fserr::tokio async calls with sync calls wrapped in tokio::task::spawnblocking.
Result: installing Jupyter from PyPI is 25-30% faster, and over 60% faster with a local server.
