Kehilot uses OCR and AI to turn forgotten Holocaust Yizkor books into searchable memory graphs

Developer aloncarmel launched Kehilot, a free, no-signup library reviving Holocaust Yizkor memorial books — 4 communities online, hundreds more waiting.
The pipeline: scanned Yiddish/Hebrew pages few can read → OCR recovers every word without altering the original → AI turns the text into a graph of people, families, places, institutions, and events, each linked to the exact passage naming them → readers search, follow guided paths, ask questions, and translate, with every answer opening back to the source page. He's soliciting content editors and code contributors.
