Rob LeClerc argues that high p(doom) among Anthropic and OpenAI researchers isn't incidental: OpenAI was founded out of fear Google would get to AGI first, and Anthropic split off over safety concerns. AI fear, he says, is deeply embedded in the culture of these organizations.
