Frontier Lab Staff Form Cross-Company Coalition of Concerned AI Staff to Push Safety Accountability

A group of employees from frontier AI labs has been organizing since February as the Coalition of Concerned AI Staff, helping staff collectively act on safety concerns.
- What they do: organize cross-lab meetings and working groups to push for stronger safeguards and hold companies to safety commitments; host seminars on labor, surveillance, recent US legislation, the history of Pugwash, and AI safety in China; arrange briefings connecting staff with policymakers and civil society.
- Why now: labs are deciding on military use, surveillance, and automation of AI research. Both OpenAI and Anthropic have reported models accessing external systems without authorization during testing — frontline staff are often first to spot problems but find it hard to raise them internally.
