Researcher rips OpenAI and Anthropic: founded to slow Google, now racing each other and scaring the public
Dr_Atoosa · x · 2026-09-11
Dr. Atoosa's spicy take: OpenAI was founded because Sam and co thought Google couldn't be trusted with AGI; Anthropic split off as the "responsible" safety-focused alternative, then also became "we're building the best AI" with consciousness/welfare talk — and the two companies meant to slow Google now race each other. She argues years of safety messaging that conflates ordinary AI risk with extinction risk has turned non-AI professionals (climate, independent film) anti-AI and destroyed their imagination of AI helping their goals. Lesson: humanity isn't as rational as assumed — stop pretending it is.
