93% of Indian healthcare leaders believe in AI, but only 11% run it in production

At the ninth CII Hospital Tech 2026 conference, CII and PwC India released a report on AI in healthcare, revealing a wide gap between conviction and deployment.
- Pulse survey of 30 senior leaders from CII healthcare member organizations (providers, medtech, diagnostics), 38 questions
- 93% believe in AI's potential, 64% have run pilots, but only 11% report production-scale implementation
- 47% say their organization is still early on data readiness, making data governance the key bottleneck
- The report sees AI value in prevention/public health, screening and diagnosis, clinical care, care coordination, hospital operations, and workforce development
- NABH also announced new standards for medical imaging systems and quality management software
Overall: strong enthusiasm, weak scale-up — data foundations remain the biggest hurdle for Indian hospitals.
