Sakana AI launches Fugu Max, dynamically routing open models to push the cost-capability Pareto frontier
hardmaru · x · 2026-09-11
Sakana AI introduced Fugu Max and Fugu Ultra v2, the next evolution of its multi-agent orchestration system. The core thesis: the industry should compete on the Pareto frontier of capability vs. cost rather than a static menu of isolated models. Fugu Max orchestrates Sakana's largest pool of open-weights and specialized models to date, including NVIDIA's Nemotron family, dynamically routing each task to the leanest capable model — claiming performance within striking distance of elite models at far lower cost. NVIDIA Japan amplified the integration of its open Nemotron models.
