OpenAI pauses new $200 ChatGPT Pro sign-ups as heavy users burn through quota
MickeySteamboat · x · 2026-09-11
OpenAI has temporarily paused new sign-ups and upgrades to its $200/month ChatGPT Pro (Pro 20x) plan as of September 10. Existing subscriptions continue to renew and the $100 Pro plan remains available, but users who cancel or downgrade can't get the $200 plan back until the pause lifts.
In replies, a user complained that agent tasks consumed an entire week's low-tier quota in about a day — hinting at the usage pressure behind the pause.
