Hands-on with GPT-6 Astra: stunning at 3D games, but two flaws keep it from daily driver
petergyang · x · 2026-09-11
Peter Yang has used GPT-6 Astra as his default model since launch and finds it "incredible and frustrating."
Strengths:
- Viral at 3D/game building: it drives Blender for 3D models and Godot for playable games, no Blender expertise needed. His 24-minute tutorial builds four demos reminiscent of Star Fox, Call of Duty, StarCraft, and Slay the Spire, plus a roguelike deckbuilder No Moat where you play an AI founder.
- Strong at high-level strategy and computer/browser use.
- Works on the $20/month ChatGPT plan: install the Blender & Godot MCP, discuss the game idea, mock up visuals with ChatGPT Images, etc.
Two flaws: it sometimes explains how it would do something instead of just doing it, plus other issues — keeping it from becoming his daily driver for now.
