Google trials AI-powered contrail mitigation with Cathay Pacific to cut aviation warming
ymatias · x · 2026-09-11
Google announced a trial of AI-powered contrail mitigation, one of the most immediately scalable and cost-effective climate solutions available today since it works with existing aircraft without new propulsion infrastructure.
The system combines AI predictions, satellite imagery, and weather intelligence to identify cold, humid atmospheric zones where warming contrails form, and works with Cathay Pacific's proprietary setup to trial flight adjustments that avoid creating them.
