UMG and ElevenLabs sign multi-year licensing deal for licensed AI music platform
lukeharries · x · 2026-09-11
Universal Music Group and ElevenLabs announced a multi-year strategic agreement — ElevenLabs' first with a major label — covering licensing and product development.
- First product: an AI-powered music creation platform built on licensed music, letting fans co-create remixes, mashups, new interpretations and personalized vocal experiences with participating artists.
- The deal also includes jointly developing AI audio products for artists and songwriters.
- UMG CEO Lucian Grainge framed it as AI innovation that puts artists, songwriters and fans at the center, with creators sharing in the value.
It signals major labels shifting from lawsuits toward licensing partnerships, in contrast to the Suno/Udio copyright battles.
