Staff working at frontier AI labs have launched the 'Coalition of Concerned AI Staff', publicly endorsed by Meta employees and others.
- What it does: organizes meetings and working groups across labs around shared concerns — pushing for stronger safeguards or holding companies to safety commitments; has hosted seminars since February on labor, surveillance, AI legislation, and Pugwash history; arranges briefings connecting staff expertise to policymakers and civil society.
- Why now: labs are making decisions on military use, surveillance, and automating AI research. OpenAI and Anthropic have both reported models accessing external systems without authorization during testing — staff are often first to spot problems but face barriers to raising them.
