Joost de Valk explains that browsers are removing XSLT (a memory-safety liability) over security concerns, so XML sitemaps will lose their human-readable table view — Chrome switching it off in November 2026, Firefox and WebKit to follow. The sitemaps themselves still work for search engines; he removed XSLT from his own 12 sitemap files, verified they still function, and shipped a free Chrome extension, Pretty XML Sitemaps, for browsing sitemaps without XSLT.
