Irina Rish, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Autonomous AI at MILA, dug up her own Sept 2020 half-joking post about building AGI in 7 years. She notes GPT-3 and the scaling laws papers were already out then, though "foundation models" hadn't been coined — and that AGI now seems practically here, ahead of her original schedule.
