Buck Shlegeris: rising opaque serial depth is the likeliest path to broken CoT monitorability

Former Redwood CEO Buck Shlegeris says he has been concerned about CoT monitorability breaking down for years. While it could happen for several reasons, he argues that architectural changes increasing opaque serial depth are a particularly likely route to massively degraded monitorability.

The comment accompanies Redwood Research's proposal for transparently disclosing no-CoT reasoning abilities and monitorability policies.
