AI researcher Melanie Mitchell says she is baffled that journalists are treating the ">10% risk of human extinction" claim as a novel story worthy of expansive reporting. In her view, there is nothing new here and no new evidence for what she calls an evidence-free claim — a pointed pushback from the skeptic camp against renewed media hype around AI extinction rhetoric.
