Anthropic's 2030 scenarios: labor income share could fall to 45% in strong AI futures
mariolefebvre · x · 2026-09-10
Anthropic's economics team led by Anton Korinek and Chad Jones released a model simulating three futures for 2030: GDP growth of 1.6%, 8.3%, or 32.4%, white-collar wages flat or down 10%, and mild or historic unemployment.
Quebec personal-finance site Finance Perso Québec crossed the model with official Canadian statistics. Key takeaway: in both strong scenarios, wealth flows to capital over labor — the labor share of national income would fall from 60% to 45.2% in the extreme case.
Practical advice: build a six-month cash cushion if you work in finance, insurance, professional services, or administration (low-complementarity jobs per ISQ); own capital via broad index funds in TFSA/RRSP rather than AI stock picks; invest in AI-complementary skills. No panic needed yet — Canadian employment has grown across all AI-exposed categories since 2022, with the only red flag among 15-29 year-olds.
