AI safety talent drifts to policy orgs; a funded US AISI could recruit them

In a thread about frontier-lab employees resigning over existential risk, one commenter noted many have left for AI policy organizations, and that a funded, impactful US AISI (AI Safety Institute) could recruit fantastic people. Wired editor-in-chief Nicholas Thompson replied that setting up such an institution would be a top priority if he ran the US government.
