Top AI spenders cut per-employee costs ~10% as token prices fall 41% since March

The Ramp AI Index for September 2026 shows per-employee AI spending among the top 1% of US companies fell nearly 10% in August. Price per million tokens has dropped 41% since March 2026, and companies are actively shifting usage from expensive frontier models to cheaper alternatives. For OpenAI and Anthropic, the question is whether volume growth can offset falling prices.
