TIME reports that Senator Bernie Sanders plans to introduce the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, prohibiting development of smarter-than-human AI and pausing advanced AI research until new safety rules exist. UK lawmaker Alex Sobel introduced what he called the first superintelligence ban bill in any G7 parliament, defining superintelligent AI as systems that could disempower state authorities. Both bills push for a global treaty; ControlAI founder Andrea Miotti argues only international agreements can address the problem.
