User koltregaskes shared a hands-on verdict on OpenAI's new GPT-6 Astra and gave up on it: Astra performs poorly at orchestration and works better as an "expert call-in" within a 5.6/Sol session than as a coordinator.
After a bad week, he switched back to GPT-5.6 Sol, which he finds better suited for orchestration at a higher reasoning level — though he admits Sol isn't great either. He calls for Codex to add a real orchestration feature, or even a model specifically trained as an orchestrator. A practical pain point: raising Astra above the low reasoning tier burns his usage quota too fast, effectively blocking its orchestration potential anyway.
The takeaway: single-task model capability doesn't equal multi-agent orchestration ability, and quota limits materially shape how the new model can be used.
