Roman Yampolskiy backs superintelligence regulation bill: waiting for proof may be too late

Speaking to Science, University of Louisville computer scientist Roman Yampolskiy called a proposed AI regulation bill "a step in the right direction."

He pushed back on the objection that uncertain definitions make regulation impossible, noting laws routinely regulate categories whose boundaries require expert interpretation. More importantly, he argued regulation should not wait until a system can be proven superintelligent: "By that point it may be too late."
