Gary Marcus: Jacob Coxon joined Anthropic in late May, not July — 'weeks' claim is false
GaryMarcus · x · 2026-09-10
Gary Marcus pushed back on the character assassination around Jacob Coxon (the OpenAI-to-Anthropic hire who appeared on CNN): his best source says Coxon started near the end of May, not July as some AI-generated claims suggested, making the 'six weeks' allegation simply false. Marcus also rejects the 'entry level' framing — Coxon spent over two years at OpenAI and was recruited by Anthropic for a long time. He calls for focusing on the merits of Coxon's ideas rather than smears, and says he'll critique the CNN appearance tomorrow.
