OpenAI's Paul Christiano: Losing Control of AI Could Kill 'Most People'
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-09-10
Paul Christiano, joining OpenAI's board and Safety and Security Committee, warned: "If we build superintelligence without more robust alignment I expect we will permanently lose control of it. If that happens then most people could die." He believes the industry, including OpenAI, is not on track to reduce catastrophic risk to an acceptable level. Christiano previously led alignment research at OpenAI and headed safety at the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (NIST).
