Academics warn AI lets colleagues turn half-baked ideas into papers, breaking incentives further

Responding to Erik Hoel's "dark forest in the AI era" point, Manuel Baltieri notes colleagues can now feed half-baked ideas discussed in passing into Claude/ChatGPT and produce tens of pages bearing their own name. Some even leverage the threat of releasing work without co-authorship to claim credit, as seen in the recent Ant/OpenAI situation. He argues broken academic incentives mean this won't even be recognized as a problem for a long time.
