Columbia DAP Lab's VLDB 2026 keynote: agentic data environments as the next research frontier
adityagp · x · 2026-09-10
At VLDB 2026's NOVAS and DashSys workshops, Columbia's DAP Lab presented early work on Agentic Data Environments. The lab vertically integrates HCI, AI, data, systems, and algorithms to tackle safety and task-quality limits of agent automation. Core argument: LLMs are text-in/text-out; most current use is content generation, but text interpreted as executable code is the basis of automation loops that could transform how work gets done. Agent use cases are dragging technology forward, with research opportunities everywhere in data systems.
