Alignment researcher Paul Christiano announced he is joining OpenAI's nonprofit board, serving on the Safety and Security Committee to support safety oversight.
Former OpenAI researcher John Schulman called it a pleasant surprise, praising Christiano as "visionary and principled" and saying he has admired his work for over a decade. Christiano has long led the Alignment Research Center and is among the most influential figures in AI alignment, making this a notable governance move for OpenAI.
