Warner Music forces Suno to kill its original AI model, lobbies governments on AI training

Neurogence · reddit · 2026-09-10

Warner Music CEO Robert Kyncl's internal email declares victory: under a deal struck less than a year ago, Suno launched licensed V6 models built with Warner, BMG and Believe and shut down its original model trained on artists' works without permission. Users call V6 a shell of prior models and are cancelling. Warner's artists now share revenue from Suno's 2M+ subscribers, with takedown rights, download limits and watermarking secured. Warner's "3-L" strategy also includes the NO FAKES Act, lobbying against TDM exceptions, and last month's lawsuit against Anthropic for torrenting lyrics to train Claude. The poster asks where open-source music models stand now.
