Dev calebfahlgren demoed self-hosting the entire planet's basemap as a single 137.8 GB PMTiles file in a Hugging Face S3-compatible bucket, served via Bun's S3 client with on-demand range fetching while panning.
dbreunig notes PMTiles quietly kills the old workflow of standing up a GIS database plus map server (or paying for one) — now it's just one file in any S3-compatible bucket.
