The Scientific Imaging and Machine Learning Workshop, supported by Schmidt Sciences' Community Initiative Fund, will take place March 15–18, 2027 at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with applications open until October 30, 2026.
- It aims to connect CV/ML method developers with domain scientists working on image data in Earth sciences, biomedical imaging, and astronomy, tackling the poor cross-instrument generalization of off-the-shelf models
- Small and interactive: 35 participants excluding speakers; hotel, breakfasts and lunches covered, plus limited travel scholarships
- Uğur Kamilov (professor, UChicago DSI-affiliated workshop) will keynote
The emphasis is on cross-domain transfer: solutions developed in one discipline often translate to others, and developers can identify high-impact unsolved problems.
