QA Wolf report pegs the cost of AI slop in software at $1.17 trillion a year

QA Wolf's new report estimates that unverified AI-generated code costs about $1.17 trillion per year — and calls it only a partial accounting:
- Customer churn from poor quality: $723B
- "AI slop debt" in production: $456B
- Tokens wasted generating unusable code: $6.64B
The report aggregates fragmented prior studies across six cost categories (generation, verification, change failure rates, incidents, slop debt, lost revenue) and shows its methodology. It also cites EntelligenceAI data that $0.44 of every $1 of AI tokens goes to fixing bugs in generated code. Note the vendor's vested interest in QA services.
