uv previews fully content-addressed cache with hardlink dedup and BLAKE-3 dirhash
charliermarsh · x · 2026-09-09
Charlie Marsh, author of uv, announced that uv's preview now uses a fully content-addressed cache.
- Every file, across all packages, is de-duplicated with hardlinks to save disk space
- Packages themselves are deduplicated via a platform-independent dirhash computed with BLAKE-3
- Enable with UVPREVIEW=1 or UVPREVIEWFEATURES=content-addressed-cache; it will likely become the default in a future release
