Tailwind CSS creator Adam Wathan announced that Tailwind Labs is joining Shopify. The framework, started nine years ago, is now installed over 110 million times per week and powers products like ChatGPT, X, Cloudflare, Reddit, and Shopify.
- Wathan says he always wanted the framework to evolve in service of a real, complex product rather than a template business
- Shopify was an early large-scale adopter, calls Tailwind a load-bearing part of its stack, and commits to actively maintaining it
- Shopify's agentic commerce explorations give the framework room to grow
