Per a scoop by reporter Jessica Stein, Sam Altman privately told a group of GOP economists that he does NOT support the US government owning shares in OpenAI. OpenAI confirmed it is against a government "stake in AI companies."
Notably, Altman had given Sen. Bernie Sanders the opposite impression, raising questions about his positioning on the politically charged debate over federal equity in frontier AI firms.
