Strogatz Corrects Himself: New Vortex Singularity Result Only Covers the Forced Case
stevenstrogatz · x · 2026-09-09
Mathematician Steven Strogatz walked back part of his earlier take: the claimed vortex singularity solution assumes smooth forcing in space and time, which can drive the vortex to intensify and become singular. The unforced case — the harder one — remains unsolved, and real water may violate the smooth-continuum assumptions long before any mathematical singularity.
