AISI Has No Hard Power: Frontier Model Access Outside US Must Now Be Earned

The UK AI Security Institute (AISI) is praised as a showcase of state capacity, but the author argues it lacks hard power. As the era of global voluntary agreements fractures, access to frontier models for those outside the US will have to be earned rather than presumed.
Notably, vetted US organizations were granted access to Mythos even while AISI was shut out. Betting British sovereignty on AISI is a harsh awakening waiting to happen — the real path is building nationally controlled capabilities in infrastructure, defense, and beyond.
