Browser Use ships Pi: a minimal TypeScript web agent distilled by Astra via real-browser hill climbing
Scobleizer · x · 2026-09-09
The Browser Use team launched Browser Use Pi, a tiny TypeScript web agent, installable via npm install @browseruse/pi.
- Novel build process: after building Browser Use, Browser Harness and BrowserCode, they asked Astra to combine what worked with minimal code and heuristics
- Hill-climbing loop: run real browser tasks, read traces, fix what breaks, delete complexity, repeat
- Stack: Pi Mono + persistent V8 REPL + raw CDP, fully TypeScript, with cloud browsers, persistent sessions, streaming and step limits
Both a new tool and an experiment in using models to automate agent-code simplification.
