OpenAI announced that a group of agents, using a next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra, produced a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem — whether smooth three-dimensional fluid motion described by the equations can break down, unresolved for roughly 90 years.
The announcement drew commentary on the recurring human response to AI progress: artists said "it's not REAL art," scientists said "it's not truly original ideas," and as AI displaces humans more broadly, the defense shifts to "it's not REALLY powerful/alive."
