Stanford professor and computational biologist clash over claims AI will cure all diseases in 5-10 years

Stanford professor Surya Ganguli and computational biologist Anshul Kundaje traded blows over claims that AI will cure all diseases within 5-10 years.
Kundaje argued that nothing from frontier AI models in biology has felt remotely unexpected or shocking so far, and only a genuine biology breakthrough would feel twilight-zone. Ganguli conceded biology is much harder but noted that two years ago, anyone predicting today's progress on millennial problems would have been dismissed. Kundaje's core rebuttal: grand claims without a plausible roadmap all sound the same.
