Zig coding agent fx v0.0.8: <2ms cold start, 40x faster init, 6MiB binary
evilrabbit_ · x · 2026-09-09
fx, an open-source (Apache-2.0) coding agent written in Zig, shipped v0.0.8 with major performance gains:
- NAPI initialization 40x+ faster; libfx cold-starts in <2ms on Node/Bun vs 400ms for pure-JS harnesses
- TUI up to 19.6x faster, first paint 74.6x faster; common CLI commands 18-25% faster
- Binary shrunk to 6.01MiB; shell tool with 75% fewer actions
- Active turns can be steered mid-run with Enter
- Documented MCP integrations with Cal.com, Clerk, Sentry, Prisma, Upstash and more
fx is model-agnostic, embeddable via libfx, and runs in browsers via WebAssembly, targeting Unix-shell-like ergonomics for research and embedding in larger systems.
