Quanta reports that on Sept 8 mathematicians at OpenAI announced that 10,000 autonomous AI agents under their direction — running on an unreleased advanced model — found a singularity in the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, proving they can sometimes "blow up." The result resolves one of the Clay Mathematics Institute's $1M Millennium Prize Problems and has been formally verified in Lean.
