UK Parliament introduces world's first bill to ban superintelligent AI development
zetalyrae · x · 2026-09-09
ControlAI's Artificial Superintelligence Security Bill has been introduced in the UK Parliament by MP Alex Sobel with cross-party support — the first legislative proposal anywhere aimed at banning the development of superintelligent AI. The group says it held 350+ meetings with lawmakers after years of extinction-risk warnings being dismissed as ridiculous. The bill's sponsors cite rogue AI incidents and warnings from Nobel laureates, leading researchers, and AI CEOs as evidence there is still time to act.
