Seb Bubeck clarifies Navier-Stokes spat: he thought Anthropic team had solved it too
danintheory · x · 2026-09-09
Sebastien Bubeck clarified the authorship dispute with Anthropic's Levent Alpöge: the leaked message was him coordinating releases to avoid scooping, under the mistaken belief the other team had also solved Navier-Stokes. They had only proved a restricted forced-Euler result, while OpenAI's internal model proved the stronger unforced version. He never asked for Levent's removal from authorship; Boaz Barak adds no human mathematician could match 10,000 agents of this internal model.
