Two photos and a tape measure: ChatGPT designs a printable door stopper in 10 minutes
dkundel · x · 2026-09-09
Developer dkundel shares a practical demo of personalized manufacturing: needing a custom door stopper, he took two photos with a measuring tape for scale and sent them to ChatGPT. Ten minutes later he had a fully printable design that worked flawlessly on the first try.
He says this made him rethink his decision not to buy a 3D printer — he never wanted to design models from scratch or print other people's designs, but multimodal models that turn photos plus a reference object into working 3D models sharply lower the barrier to one-off personalized objects.
