NYT: OpenAI says unreleased model cracked Navier-Stokes in 88 hours

The New York Times (Cade Metz) reports OpenAI claims its latest AI technology solved the Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness problem, one of the Millennium Prize Problems, calling it the most dramatic sign yet that AI is fundamentally transforming higher mathematics.
- OpenAI researcher Sébastien Bubeck: "a spectacular culmination of the arc we have seen over the past twelve months." The unreleased model needed just 88 hours.
- The paper reportedly ships with a Lean proof, open-sourced on GitHub (tristanbuckmaster/fluidlean).
- Over the past year AI systems solved many long-standing math problems, but none as heavily researched or watched as a Millennium Problem; mathematicians are both excited and concerned.
