AI-assisted writing will become the norm, making 'hand-made' text indistinguishable

dbasch · x · 2026-09-09

dbasch (former Amazon exec) argues written text is in an identity crisis: readers now suspect every paragraph of being AI slop, but that distinction won't last. AI slop spans a spectrum of human contribution — a bare prompt, a human draft fully rewritten by AI, or purely agentic text serving someone else's goals. Genuine human writing means having an idea, typing it entirely, and letting the idea evolve as you type. Once AI output is indistinguishable from human writing, "hand-made" text may need certification that a human wrote it unassisted — if anyone still cares by then.
